It’s that time of year: the East Rowan Broadway Revue is just around the corner.
The 17th-annual event has a little bit of everything this year. The theme is “Dance Evolution,” and includes classics like “Thriller” to more current favorites.
Practices began at the end of January, and students have even been rehearsing on weekends.
“The students have worked extremely hard and are dedicated and want to be there,” said choreographer Laura Troutman.
Troutman is an East Rowan graduate with 13 years of dance experience under her belt, including five years of participating in the revue.
This year’s music directors are Dean Orbison, the chorus and theatre teacher at East, and Elizabeth Cook, who has taught chorus at Erwin Middle School for 17 years.
“It’s a good experience for everyone,” said senior Lauren Bost.
The number of students participating this year is record-breaking, with about 158 students involved. Thirty-six are from Erwin Middle School, including “Jailhouse Rock” soloist Eddie Burnham.
“This show means everything to me because I love to sing and dance,” Burnham said.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 3-4, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 5.
Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door.

The Broadway Revue is sponsored by Supporters of Education at East Rowan (SEER).
