White Family Reunion

The reunion opened with an outing Friday evening at Kelsey Scott Park. The family colors present were yellow, red, green, and black.
The reunion banquet was held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Saturday. The banquet was coordinated by Valerie Sifford, chairperson, and Sonya Williams, secretary. Cheryl Walker Davis opened the program with the family reunion pledge followed with the family history and other special talents.
Also, graduates, births, birthdays and retirees were recognized.
The family worshiped on Sunday at Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church. The closing picnic was held at Dan Nicholas Park. More than 60 members were in attendance.
The reunion honored Mrs. Bettye Hold of Salisbury for her many years of dedicated service to the White family. Officers selected for the New Year are Kecia Page, chairperson, Courtney Kimball, vice chairperson, Sonya Williams, secretary, Minta H. Stofford, treasurer, Lisa Gilmore, program, and Jonah Hyman and Diane Gilmore, amenities, and John L. Harris, parliamentarian.
The reunion ended with encouraging remarks by the outgoing president Mrs. Valerie Sifford.

 

 

National Night Out Block Party

Salisbury residents are invited to set up a tent and table to represent the character and charm of their neighborhood. There will be a competition for the best neighborhood-themed tent. Rowan Arts Council announces deadline for Grassroots Grants applications

The Rowan Arts Council announces Aug. 17, 2018 as the deadline for the 2018-2019 Grassroots Grants applications. Since 1977, the North Carolina Arts Council’s Grassroots Arts Program has provided North Carolina citizens access to quality arts experiences. Using a per capita based formula, the program provides funding for the arts in all 100 counties of the state through partnerships with local arts councils. The Rowan Arts Council serves as North Carolina Arts Council’s partner in awarding subgrants to local organizations for arts programs in Rowan County.
Applications are available for non-profit organizations whose purpose is to promote and develop diverse cultural arts programming in Rowan County. Funding priority is given to qualified arts organizations, arts in education programs conducted by qualified artists, and other community organizations that provide arts programs in the county. Grassroots funds are not generally awarded to arts organizations that receive funding through the North Carolina Arts Council’s General Support Program. Projects must occur between July 1, 2018 and May 15, 2019.

The Rowan Arts Council will also mail applications and guidelines upon request. Applications must be received no later than Aug. 17, 2018 at 5 p.m.
The Rowan Arts Council is available to assist interested applicants in preparing competitive grants. Grant applications are evaluated by a diverse panel of community members and voted on by the Rowan Arts Council Board of Directors. Awards will be announced in September 2018.
