ROCKWELL — A tree fell on a vehicle Sunday evening as storms rolled through the region. Rowan County telecommunications reported that at approximately 7:47 p.m. Sunday evening, a tree fell and landed on a car on U.S. Highway 52, near Vance Allen Avenue in Rockwell.

According to Alan Shinn, chief of the Rockwell Rural Fire Department, a woman was driving along Highway 52 when the tree fell. Branches pinned the car in from in front and behind. Firefighters used chainsaws to clear branches from to road and free the car. Shinn said the woman was uninjured, and refused to be taken to the hospital.

Power lines were undamaged, however, branches did take out Spectrum and Windstream lines. Shinn said his crew had not cleaned the lines when they left the scene. Emergency responders believed wind caused the tree to topple.

Rockwell Rural Fire Department responded to the scene, along with Rowan County EMS.
