F.A.C.T. basketball camp brings in speakers, coaches, fun

The 2018 F.A.C.T. (Families and Communities Together) Skills & Drills Basketball Camp was held this past week at Livingstone College in the Trent Gymnasium.
It was open to boys and girls aged 9-15 and was free to attend.
Dr. Derrick Anderson was chairperson of the camp. Coach Andrew Mitchell was the camp director and coaches Timothy Bates and George Miller were assistant directors.
Each day, campers were taught fundamentals of basketball and championship games among the different age groups were held Friday.
The last game of the day was played by the coaches and assistants.
First-, second- and third-place finishers of the one-on-one, three-on-three and free-throw contests were named, along with best female and best male players.
The campers were treated with a hot dog and ice cream social to end the week.
Guest speakers came to share with the campers each day. They included the following:
• Dr. Daryl Barnes, owner of Interactive Science Programs;
• Henderson Lentz, Catawba College student and founder of Hendo’s Hope;
• Kevin McClain, supervisor of the “Think Smart” Program at Davidson Correctional Center;
• Alfonso Duncan, director of compliance for the athletic department at Livingstone College;
• Sgt. Corey Brooks of the Salisbury Police Department.
The Blanche & Julian Robertson Family Foundation was a major sponsor this year.
Other sponsors were: Man Up Monday, Hearts with Hands, Rowan-Salisbury Schools Summer Meal Program, Livingstone College, Hall Gym (Salisbury Parks & Recreation) and Perkins Management.
Support staff were members of F.A.C.T.
