Catawba College
SALISBURY — Catawba College continues to be heralded as one of the country’s colleges that delivers the “Best Bang for the Buck,” according to the 2018 Washington Monthly College Guide and Rankings released the final week of August. Catawba was ranked 93 among of 279 higher education institutions across the Southeast in the “Best Bang for the Buck” category, cited because it “helps non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.”
Additionally, Washington Monthly ranked Catawba 79th among 150 of the nation’s “Best Baccalaureate Colleges” included in its 2018 College guide
This annual guide and ranking is touted by Washington Monthly for rating four-year schools “based on what they are doing for the country,” analyzing them based on their public good in three broad categories – social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs) and service (encouraging students to give something back).
Since 2005, the Washington Monthly has released its annual College Guide and Rankings. The publication contends: “It’s our answer to U.S News & World Report, which relies on crude and easily manipulated measures of wealth, exclusivity, and prestige to evaluate schools.”
Washington Monthly’s 2018 “Best Bang for the Buck” rankings are broken down according to five geographic regions, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, South and West.
