SALISBURY — The Rowan IDEA Center Foundation will host workshops for entrepreneurs starting Tuesday at West End Plaza.

The goal is to help create and grow young businesses by providing early-stage support.

The workshops aim to simulate creativity, teamwork and pitch polishing with guest speakers and poster sessions. They will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.

On Tuesday, Galeal Zino, founder and CEO of NetFoundry of Charlotte, will speak on “What Is an Entrepreneur?” with Renee Just, the program facilitator and director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Experiential Development at Catawba College.

Zino, of Salisbury, led software and engineering departments for startups and large multinational companies prior to founding NetFoundry. He was founder and president of LocalREplay, vice president of engineering at Teleglobe, and vice president of development and engineering at ITXC. He has eight patents for software and platforms powering global collaboration products.

Just is the founder of a consulting practice that helps entrepreneurs and small business owners set strategic goals and devise action plans. She is a professor at the Ketner School of Business at Catawba College and director of the CEED program at the college, which was launched two years ago.

“Most people don’t start out thinking of themselves as an entrepreneur,” Just said. “They may simply be trying to solve a problem. Entrepreneurs can be found everywhere — friends, family, co-workers, even people you haven’t met. The largest employment sector in the U.S. is entrepreneurs — small businesses doing it themselves.”
