Staff report
Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) allowed three walks and a single while recording only one out on Monday.
Parnell threw 25 pitches, only nine for strikes. He was fortunate to be charged with only one earned run, and the New York Mets still beat the Washington Nationals 5-2.Parnell entered the game in the seventh in relief of former Charlotte 49ers star John Maine to protect a 5-1 lead. Parnell walked Wil Nieves, struck out Justin Maxwell, then allowed a base hit to leadoff man Cristian Guzman. He then walked Nick Johnson to load the bases and walked Ryan Zimmerman to force in a run.
With lefty Adam Dunn up next, Parnell was lifted in favor of southpaw Pedro Feliciano. Feliciano got Dunn to fly out. Then J.J. Putz got the final out of the inning.
