West Rowan Farm Home & Garden hosts painting class

Children and parents can get in the spirit of Halloween and fall by taking an acrylic painting class at West Rowan Farm Home & Garden in Mount Ulla.

The class will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Participants will paint cats on a pumpkin in the moonlight on an 11-by-14-inch canvas. The class will offer step-by-step instructions. No drawing or painting experience is necessary.

The class is recommended for children 6 and older.

Construction of corporate park in Concord announced

Fortius Capital Partners announced plans to construct Meadows Corporate Park near Poplar Tent Road in Concord.

The 21.5-acre-site will house two multitenant industrial buildings measuring 112,000 square feet and 80,000 square feet. The buildings will share a truck court.

Fortius and its affiliate, Fortius-Richardson LLC, expect the project will create $9.9 million in tax investment.

“We are thrilled to begin development of this premier 21.5-acre-site with excellent access and exposure to Interstate 85,” said J. Harris Morrison III of Fortius Capital Partners. “We will meet the demand of industrial user requiring 16,000 square feet and greater of highly flexible and functional industrial space.”

The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners and Concord City Council approved a three-year, performance-based tax incentives package for Meadows Corporate Park of $181,764 by the county and $121,176 by the city.

“Fortius’ development will provide space for new and expanding businesses to locate and provide quality jobs,” Concord Mayor Bill Dusch said. “Our city’s support of this investment will lead to new jobs, a broader tax base and a stronger economy.”

The first Rowan County Chamber of Commerce Power in Partnership breakfast of the season will be at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Oaks, 728 Klumac Road.

The deadline to register is at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Josh Ward of the National Association of Manufacturers will kick off the “Salute to Manufacturing” session in which local manufacturers will be featured ahead of Manufacturing Day plant tours on Oct. 5.

The cost of the breakfast is $15 for members and $25 for nonmembers, which includes breakfast and the program.

Verizon Wireless store to provide more jobs for Kannapolis residents

Cellular Sales, an independent Verizon retailer, has opened a store in Kannapolis that is expected to bring new jobs to the community over the next year.

The store, at 520 Annapolis Parkway, opened Aug 25 and is the 65th store in North Carolina and the third in Concord.

“We’re extremely excited to be able to expand our commitment to the Concord area,” said regional director Don White. “We are especially looking forward to better serving the residents of Annapolis.”

The store employs 12 people and plans to add at least a dozen more as it grows over the next year.
