The walls of Salisbury’s Civic Center were bursting with color at the the Carolina Artist’s Guild’s annual Art Exposition Sept. 18-22, held again at at Salisbury’s
 Civic Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., free and open to the public
Each year around this time, members of the Guild have completed various works of art and are ready and anxious to present them to the public.  Drawings, paintings, collages as well as photographs are featured.

The Carolina Artist’s Guild was formed in the early 1990s.  In an effort to give members an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work, the yearly Expo was born.  Members of the Guild, while planning for the event, realized that the art show would be a gift to the community and to the greater Piedmont area.

While many of the members of the Guild are highly trained in visual art, newcomers to the Guild with little experience, soon become adept and excel in their chosen medium.  Workshops held throughout the year help to hone latent skills.  Efforts are made to bring noted artists from throughout the country to present workshops, thus, new ideas are acted upon and skills enhanced.
The Guild members not only exhibit their work but give others an opportunity.  The Rowan Salisbury Student Art Show is a yearly event given by the Guild.  It is an effort to give all schools in the county a chance to exhibit their student’s art work.  Children are thrilled to see their work on display
and appreciated in such a public manner.

Along with the student show, free workshops are held. During the Expo on Thursday evening, two workshops were held, an acrylic painting workshop and a workshop on Doodling as Art.

The Carolina Artist’s Guild is open and welcome to those 18 and over who express interest in any art medium.  The monthly meeting occurs on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. It is held at the Rufty-Holmes Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

The award reception was held on Sept. 20, where winners were announced and awards presented.
