SALISBURY — The City Council will discuss two expansion projects and consider a request for an Economic Development Incentive Grant when it meets Tuesday.

Scott Shelton of the Rowan County Economic Development Commission will discuss Project Care and Project Arizona.

Shelton will request a grant for about $1.7 million. Project Care would create 59 full-time jobs and add $68 million to the city’s tax base if Salisbury is chosen, he said.

For Project Arizona, he will request a grant of about $3.85 million. The project is expected to create 77 jobs and add $188 million to the tax base if approved.

At the Sept. 17 council meeting, several members expressed excitement for the economic impact the project could have for Salisbury and approved a public hearing for Monday.

The council also will consider two requests from Community Planning Services about a rewrite of institutional campus zoning to be community interest, which would include schools, libraries, VFW posts and churches. Preston Mitchell, development and code services manager, will also request a change in the notification system for rezoning requests to expand mail notification from within 100 feet to within 500 feet of a rezoning area.

The council will receive a report from Chanaka Yatawara of Salisbury Community Development Corp. on housing programs.

Mayor Al Heggins will present proclamations for La Fiesta de Rowan Day, Fire Prevention Week and Rowan County United Way Month.

The City Council will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers, 217 S. Main St.
