WALLBURG — South Rowan’s volleyball team won against North Davidson — 23-25, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-16  — in the semifinals of the Central Carolina Conference Tournament on Tuesday at Ledford.

Anna Rymer had 21 assists and 14 digs for the Raiders (21-4). Kira Rymer had 12 assists and 5 digs. Ashlyn Faw had 21 digs. Payton Black had 22 digs. Janiya Downs had 14 digs, eight blocks and 15 kills.

South plays West Davidson today for the tournament championship. The game is at Ledford at 6:30.

Carson won at South Iredell in five sets on Tuesday and earned a share of the North Piedmont Conference championship.

Carson won 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 19-25 and 15-5 in Troutman.

Carson and West Rowan finished with 8-2 league records.

Mallory Weast had 20 digs and 19 kills for the Cougars. Grace Thomas had eight kills and 35 assists. Nancy Gamewell had seven kills, including the one that ended the match.

Katie Blackwell had 16 digs. Jaden Vaughn had three aces, 24 digs, 15 kills and four blocks.  Kary Hales had 46 serve-receives and 50 digs.

West Rowan and Carson split. West Rowan will be seeded No. 1 for the conference tournament, by virtue of a sweep of third-place North Iredell. Carson split with North Iredell.

West will play Thursday at 6:30 in a semifinal, with Carson playing at 5. Carson is hosting the tournament semifinals and championship.

In first-round games, South Iredell hosts Statesville and East Rowan goes to North Iredell.

Jayvee volleyball

Carson’s jayvees lost at South Iredell — 25-18 and 25-18 — on Tuesday.

Jillian Dunn had 13 digs for Carson (13-7).  Ava Corriher had eight digs and five kills. Alicia Thompson had four kills. Alayna Slusser had eight kills. Saybrin Thomas had 10 digs. Tate Barger had 16 assists.

College volleyball

Queens won in five sets at Catawba on Tuesday.

Queens took a 25-17, 25-17, 23-25, 22-25 and 15-6 victory in South Atlantic Conference play.

  Kimberly Hurtado led Catawba with 14 kills and seven blocks. Kylie Morgan added 10 kills with 22 digs, while also serving three aces. Allison Benton recorded 36 digs and Morgan Hester (Carson) handed out 40 assists.

Lindsay Elmore (Carson) had four kills for Queens.

College golf

DULUTH, Ga. — Michael Childress and Nick Lyerly, both Salisbury residents, finished high individually in the Autotrader Collegiate Classic, here Tuesday at Berkeley Hills Country Club.

Childress, a freshman at Richmond, fired a 4-under 68 in Tuesday’s final round, finishing tied for 19th with a three-round total of 213. Childress, who shot a 75 and 70 in the first two rounds, both played on Monday, was solid yesterday, collecting five birdies and just one bogey.

Lyerly, a sophomore at UNC Greensboro, shot a 74 yesterday, following a 69 and 72. He was tied for 27th at 215.

Walker Cress, of Concord and a junior at James Madison, tied for 31st with a 217 (73-70-74).

Steven Fisk was the medalist and led Georgia Southern (829) to the team victory. The Eagles won by one stroke over UNCG (830), as Lyerly’s teammates, Jonathan Brightwell and Bryce Hendrix, finished second and third, respectively.

Fisk was 17 under par for the tournament, shooting 199 (65-65-69). He won by five strokes over Brightwell and Hendrix.

Georgia State (848) took third place,  followed by Samford (850), JMU (852), Chattanooga (857), Boston College (858), Richmond (860), Western Kentucky (862), Loyola-Maryland (862), Tennessee Tech (868) and Francis Marion (885).

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Catawba’s women claimed ninth place at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial  Tournament.  Catawba posted a score of 621. Kaley Barts shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for fourth at 146 to lead the  Indians.

MORGANTON — Catawba placed ninth at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate Men’s Golf Tournament,  posting a three-round total of 878.

  Tanner Bibey led Catawba with a tournament total of 213 and was 17th.

AJ Boyd had an even-par 70 on Tuesday to finish at 219.  Tyler Mulkey (North Rowan) shot 76-76-71 — 223.

College soccer

  Catawba’s Shelby Thompson was named Defensive Player of the Week for SAC women’s soccer.

Thompson, a native of Charlotte, did not allow a goal in two matches.

  

Local golf

The Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association played a low gross/low net event on Tuesday.

Sixty-five GARS members played in the annual ABCD Tournament at  The Revival at the Crescent GC.

‘A’ Flight winner was Franklin Ford with a net of 64.16. ‘A’ Flight low gross winner was Bernard Caldwell. ‘B’ Flight winner was Clyde Crawford with a net of 60.71. ‘B’ Flight low gross winner was Frank Masingo.

‘C’ Flight winners were Mike Sides and Tony Labarbera with a net of 65.19.

‘C’ Flight low gross winner was Rick Fior.

‘D’ Flight winner was Gerald Osborne with a net of 62.27. ‘D’  Flight low gross winner was Tommy Ellis.

Caldwell had low gross score with a 71, and Crawford had low net score.

Crawford, 77, shot a 75, while Masingo, 83, shot an 80.

North Hills

North Hills Christian School junior goalkeeper Owen Teague  was selected for the  NCISAA  1A All-State soccer team.

Teague had an impressive season with over 100 saves, four on penalty kicks.  He was elected as one of the team’s captains for the first time.

Salisbury Academy

The Salisbury Academy varsity girls tennis team won at Erwin, 5-4, to remain unbeaten for the season.

Leading the way for the Jaguars were Millie Wymbs, Kate Burton, Ruby Walser and Bailey Zino.

In doubles the team of Elizabeth Applewhite and Ruby Walser were victorious to clinch the win.

The team will look to finish off a great season at the Country Club of Salisbury today at 4 p.m. against  Sacred Heart.
