The ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m. Thursday will commemorate the studio joining the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce. Chamber and city officials and the public are invited to the ceremony and a studio tour.

From 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 28, SoFul will have a birthday open house to include a free gentle yoga class at 2 p.m. and a free beginning belly-dance class at 3 p.m. Indian food will be served in the wellness center from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Walser Technology Group, Central Carolina Insurance and Schooley Mitchell Consultants will host a lunch-and-learn program on cybersecurity Tuesday.

BBB to host identity fraud, financial scam protection seminar

The Federal Trade Commission, Social Security Administration and N.C. Department of Insurance will lead a consumer protection seminar at Levine Senior Center in Matthews on Wednesday.

Hosted by the Better Business Bureau of Charlotte, the free program will tackle topics about cybersecurity, internet safety, online scams, distribution of new Medicare cards and more.

Consumer education credits will be available for adult home care administrators and general consumer education certificates will be available for other professional disciplines.

The seminar will be at Levine Senior Center, 1050 DeVore Lane, Matthews. Registration and exhibits open at 8:15 a.m. The program will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Food Lion raises more than $240K for Hope for the Warriors

For its 18th annual Thriller on the Griller, Food Lion raised more than $240,000 for the Hope for the Warriors, a nonprofit organization that serves veterans, service members and military families.

Food Lion customers could purchase a donated lunch and bid on silent-auction items like bicycles, golf bags, and autographed memorabilia.

“What an honor it has been to help those who have served us,” said Joel Smith, director of operations of Food Lion. “Food Lion is a major supporter of the military, as are the towns and communities we serve. It was great to partner with the amazing community at Cypress Landing to help drive donations for Hope for the Warriors. Through events like this, along with the ‘Thriller on the Griller’ programs, we were able to donate more than $240,000 to the Hope for the Warriors.

“Additionally, Food Lion is currently running a campaign called ‘Be a Hero, Serve a Hero,’ where customers can buy participating products during the campaign dates to help donate additional funds. We can’t thank our heroes enough than to assist Hope for the Warriors, all while giving back to our amazing communities that serve us.”

Thriller on the Griller has raised more than $1.1 million for Hope for the Warriors since 2011.
