Area Sports Briefs: Golf state championships coming up on Monday, Tuesday

High school girls golf
East Rowan golfers Carmen Fraley, Camryn Corriher and Hailey Fesperman will be competing as a team at Longleaf in the 3A state championships on Monday and Tuesday.
Monday’s tee times on hole No. 10: Fraley — 10:20, Corriher —10:30, Fesperman — 10:40.
Carson’s Sophia Brown qualified for the state tournament as an individual and tees off at 11 a.m.

The 1A/2A state tournament will be held Oct 22-23 at Foxfire Resort and Golf Club in Foxfire Village.
College cross country
In the Lenoir-Rhyne Classic, L-R freshman Sean Incardona (East Rowan) ran a 26:41 8K for 11th place.

Carson grads Matthew and Jonathan Martin helped UNC Pembroke win the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday.
Matthew crossed in 16th place in 25:46.8, while Jonathan was 41st position with a time of 26:35.5.

Charlotte’s Zach Marchinko (Carson) ran 25:38 in the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals, while Hickory Ridge grad Alex Cornwell ran 25:04.
High school soccer
West Rowan lost, 5-1, to South Iredell in North Piedmont Conference soccer.
Stevenson Lopez scored the West goal. Esteban Trujillo had the assist.
College volleyball
Visiting Lenoir-Rhyne topped Catawba in three sets in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Goodman Gym. Freshman Kylie Morgan led Catawba with eight kills and 13 digs.
In Catawba’s sweep of Mars Hill on Saturday, Morgan and Allie Grubb had 10 kills each. Morgan Hester (Carson) handed out 36 assists and had 18 digs.

Lenoir-Rhyne won against Queens on Saturday.
Braelyn Faust (West Rowan) had two blocks for the Bears. Lindsay Elmore (Carson) had six kills and two blocks for the Royals.
College football
Kacey Otto (West Rowan) threw a TD pass for St. Andrews on Saturday in a loss to Point University.
Otto completed all five of his passes and rushed three times for 49 yards.

Wesley Porter (East Rowan) had five tackles, a forced fumble and a pass breakup for Sewanee in Saturday’s loss to Trinity.

Winston-Salem State’s Najee Tucker (West Rowan) had a sack against St. Augustine’s and made a tackle in Saturday’s win against Livingstone.

Teoz Mauney (West Rowan) made two tackles for St. Augustine’s in Saturday’s CIAA loss to Fayetteville State.
Jacob Young (North Rowan) averaged 43.4 yards on five punts for Fayetteville State and put two inside the 20.

Charlotte’s starting QB Chris Reynolds (Davie County) will miss the rest of the season after ankle surgery.

College women’s soccer
Piedmont International won against Johnson & Wales, 3-2.
Katelyn Goodman (South Rowan) scored a goal for PIU. Cierra Josey (Carson) scored the game-winner.
High school girls tennis
Salisbury (19-1) will host East Montgomery (11-2) in the second round of the 2A dual team state playoffs on Tuesday.
CCC runner-up Oak Grove (17-2) won in the first round and takes on Surry Central (15-1) on Tuesday.
Cross country
Cross country regional competition is coming up next Saturday.
Salisbury and South Rowan runners will compete at 11 a.m. at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.
