High school golf: East Rowan girls 10th after first round

SOUTHERN PINES — East Rowan’s girls are in 10th place after the first 18 holes of the 3A golf state championships being held at Longleaf.
Led by a 79 by Riya Modak, Cox Mill paces the team standings at 246. Rockingham County (248) and Northern Guilford (249) are pushing the Chargers.
East, coached by Rhett Teems, shot 295.
Carmen Fraley led the Mustangs with a 22-over 94.
Fraley got off to a shaky start with a 9 on the par-4 No. 10 hole and made the turn at 53. She was steadier on the front nine. She birdied No. 5, a 390-yard par-5, and made three of her five pars on the front side. She shot 41 on the front.
East’s Camryn Corriher shot 24-over 96 and is tied for 47th. She parred five holes and also played better on the front. She had a 45 on the front side after starting on the back and making the turn at 51.
East’s Hailey Fesperman checked in at 33-over 105 to tie for 64th. She made the turn at 51 and shot 54 on the front nine. She parred three holes.
Carson’s Sophia Brown made two pars and shot 41-over 113 for 73rd place.
Topping the individual leaderboard is Asheville’s Ana Tsiros, who shot 2-under 70 to take a three-shot lead into Tuesday’s final round.
Tuesday’s tee times: Brown is in the first group at 9 a.m., Fesperman, 9:20, Corriher 9:30, Fraley, 9:40.
