The West Rowan High School Class of 1963 held its 55th reunion on October 13, 2018 at the home of classmate Gail Carter Frye and her husband Pete. West Rowan opened in 1959 and the class of 1963 was the first class to complete four years. Fifty-seven classmates, spouses and guests attended.

The evening began with an hour of socializing and catching up with each other. At 6 p.m. a wonderful meal of BBQ, BBQ chicken with all the trimmings and plentiful desserts were enjoyed by all. After dinner, there was lots of conversation about grandchildren, great grandchildren, who had been married at least 50 years, and so much more. The big question of the night was to see if anybody could guess the number of cakes our hostess, Gail Frye, had made in 2018, because she is so well known for her baking skills. After many guesses, Gail revealed that she had baked 291 cakes this year alone. Most other classmates said they had not baked that many cakes in their entire life.

Eight members of the class who had passed away since our 50th reunion were named and remembered. The class has lost a total of 22 classmates.

Door prizes were awarded to lucky attendees. Our host and hostess were thanked for all they do for the class and were presented gift certificates to their favorite local restaurant and a $200 donation was made to West Rowan in their honor for an ongoing project in the Falcons gym.

An original poem about the Class of ‘63 was written and read by classmate Gladys Drury Dillon.

The evening ended with many more “remember when” moments.
