SALISBURY — Novant Health will participate in the biannual National Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, encouraging residents to drop off unused or expired prescription medications at the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center pharmacy at 612 Mocksville Ave.

The take-back starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

More than half of the people who misuse pain relievers — and the majority of teenagers misusing prescription drugs — get the drugs from a friend or relative.

Not only is it unlawful for controlled-substance prescriptions to be transferred to someone other than the patient for whom it was prescribed, but doing so may cause others harm.
