SPENCER — The N.C. Museum of Dolls, Toys & Miniatures is once again hosting antiques dealer Michael Hansen this weekend for an annual appraisal fair.
The museum is extending the fair to include the sale of vintage dolls and toys.
The appraisal fair will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the museum, 108 Fourth St. in Spencer. All proceeds will benefit the museum, the only one of its kind in the Carolinas.
Kathy Gregg, a museum board member, said the appraisal fair has become a popular annual event.
“We are especially pleased to offer a variety of vintage and collectible dolls and toys,” she said. “We believe having the yard sale will help us get items we can not display into the hands of collectors who will cherish them and we hope to earn money to support our wonderful museum.”
Hansen, who is a certified appraiser and antiques dealer, has been in the business nearly 45 years. He will celebrate his 75th birthday this weekend doing what he likes best.
His specialties include toys, books, historical documents, silver, porcelain, jewelry, glass, American furniture, midcentury decorative arts, and fine art. He’s also knowledgeable about folk art and Native American, Civil War and general decorative arts.
Admission to the museum is free for anyone attending the appraisal fair or sale. Appraisals are $5. Tickets will be available at the door.
Hansen will provide verbal, current-market estimates. Arrangements can be made for more extensive appraisals outside the show and for the auction of items of significant value if the owner wishes to sell them.
For large items or heavy furniture, bring photographs that show the front and back of the item; the feet; close-ups of special markings or signatures inside or on the bottom of drawers or the bottom of the item; and any dovetail joints.
