Spend $20 on 20th, boost local economy
Thanks to the Salisbury Post for its $20 on the 20th campaign. In these difficult times, it is especially important that we all do all we can to help our local economy. A small expenditure by each of us can have a tremendous economic impact.
As president of Downtown Salisbury, Inc., I would urge your readers to spend their $20 downtown. With more than 75 shops and 15 restaurants, there is something for everyone in downtown Salisbury.
While every merchant in Rowan County deserves our support, I also urge people to consider spending their $20 with locally owned and operated merchants and restaurants.
Numerous studies have shown that the overall local economic impact of shopping with a local merchant can be two to three times greater than shopping at a national chain store.

This week we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first lunar landing and the first-ever walk on the moon known to modern man.
Your newspaper has chosen to ignore this modern-day wonder, but rest assured you are in good company. The only TV program that recognized this event was “Good Morning America,” and they only addressed it in fine print in the ticker tape area on the bottom of the screen.
It is ironic that the European media has been reporting this historic event all this week, and yet we cannot give NASA, the space program and the astronauts the respect that they honorably deserve.
