SALISBURY — Polling places across Rowan County are seeing a lot of voters this Election Day, but lines moved quickly early in the day, according to Elections Director Nancy Evans.
Polls close at 7:30 p.m.
By 5 p.m., lines were growing longer at some precincts, such as Spencer.
Evans said this afternoon that polling places had been busy to “almost chaotic.”
Voting is steady across the county, shee said. Poll workers are encountering the usual questions about unregistered voters, inactive voters and voters who moved away and moved back.
The West Innes precinct opened about 15 minutes late because a poll worker fell at home, she said, and people were understanding. She reported the delay to the State Board of Elections.
Evans has predicted turnout of 45 to 50 percent but said today that it’s hard to predict.
The public can watch election results come in this evening at the Board of Elections Training Room, she said. The board is located in the West End Plaza, 1935 Jake Alexander Blvd W.
The board can also watch returns in the commissioners’ meeting room in the county administration building at 130 W. Innes St.
