A.L. Brown’s boys soccer team edged Asheville Erwin, 2-1, on Tuesday and advanced to the third round of the 3A playoffs.

The 18th-seeded Wonders will host No. 23 Southwest Guilford on Thursday.

A golden goal by Ethan Wiles lifted North Davidson to a 2-1 win against West Stanly in the 2A playoffs on Tuesday.

Next for the Black Knights is a third-round matchup at CCC rival Salisbury on Thursday.

High school baseball

Salisbury’s Jack Fisher will sign with UNC Wilmington on Friday, Nov. 16.

North Rowan is scheduled to finish the regular season tonight at 7 p.m. at North Moore.

Also moved up to tonight is the North Iredell-South Iredell game. South Iredell will tie for first place in the NPC if it wins.

Fifty-two GARS members played a  Captains Choice at Corbin Hills GC.

The first-place team with a minus 11 was Jessie King, Charles Sargent, Bobby Bryant and Larry Perrell.

The second-place team with a minus-10 was David Scearce, Buddy Barger, Carl Moore and Paul Rogers.

The third-place team with a minus-9 was Larry Petrea, Bernard Caldwell, Rick Fior and Bobby Miller.

King had closest to the pin on the No. 2 hole, and Fior had longest putt on No. 9.

College volleyball

Catawba was swept by Wingate in Tuesday’s first round of the SAC tourney.Kylie Morgan led Catawba with eight kills and 12 digs.

College football

The South Atlantic Conference has two teams in the NCAA Super Region 2 regional rankings.  Lenoir-Rhyne, ranked 17th nationally, is No. 3 in the region, while Wingate moved to No. 8 in this week’s regional rankings.

Lenoir-Rhyne has won nine straight games.

College basketball

Brevard’s  Malon Herron-Cuthbertson (North Rowan) made three 3-pointers in 16 minutes of action vs. S.C. State on Tuesday.
