SALISBURY — A 94-year-old Salisbury man who was killed in a three-vehicle crash at East Innes Street and Interstate 85 was identified as Joseph Bernard Krochmal.
The crash occurred at 11:24 a.m. with multiple entrapments and pin-ins, according to the Salisbury Police Department.
Krochmal’s red Chevrolet S-10 pickup stopped partially straddling the median and facing a black Toyota RAV-4. Officials said a father and a days-old infant were in the Toyota. They were taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center as a precaution.
The driver and passenger of a white Buick also were involved in the collision but were not injured.
Police officials said emergency crews worked to free both Krochmal and other victims, whose names were not released.
In addition to the Police Department, crews from the Salisbury Fire Department, Rowan County EMS and Rowan County Rescue Squad responded. Police are still investigating, but no charges are expected at this time, authorities said.
Police gave no details about how the collision occurred.
Police partially blocked the road, leaving access to the on-ramps for I-85 south- and northbound.
