BURLINGTON ó Clubwomen from across the state traveled to attend “Boot Camp 201,” the annual summer information meeting of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of North Carolina (GFWC-NC).
Wendy Roueche, Salisbury Woman’s Club president, and Carolyn Myers, treasurer, attended the meeting in Burlington.
Beverly Lassiter, state president, presided.
Members were offered their choice of two dates and three meeting sites in an effort to encourage participation.
State officers provided updated information about GFWC-NC administration, projects and programs to the more than 80 district and local club leaders who attended.
Girls on the Run, the GFWC-NC President’s and Junior Director’s Special Project for 2008-2010, received special attention.
This non-profit organization has a mission of educating and preparing preteen girls for a life-time of self-respect and healthy living. GFWC-NC is currently supporting Girls on the Run with a two-year fundraising and awareness campaign and has the goal of raising $50,000 during that time.
Workshops also focused on leadership at all levels of the organization (club, district, state,), membership issues, and public speaking.
GFWC is an international organization of community-based women’s clubs that has been working for over 100 years to address the most pressing needs of their communities and the world. It is headquartered in Washington, DC. GFWC-NC was founded in 1902 and currently has over 5,000 members in North Carolina. The headquarters is in Raleigh.
