Thanks for hard work of youth advocates
I would like to express thanks to two Rowan County advocates for their hard work and dedication to the Youth In Action Against Tobacco Council.
Ebony Rivers and Lamonte Bell, both 2009 graduates, have been involved in youth tobacco prevention work and have educated many youth in the Rowan-Salisbury School System about the dangers of tobacco use, conducted Red Flag visits reminding merchants to check for identification before selling tobacco products, made many public speaking presentations, and helped plan and host special events. The program has achieved many recognitions and awards for these youth volunteering their time to help Rowan County teens make a commitment to live 100 percent tobacco-free lives.
These youth have made an impact in the Rowan-Salisbury community, and on behalf of the council we wish them the very best as they start college in August. We are so proud of these true advocates! For more information, or if you have a son or daughter in the 7th-12th grade who’s interested in joining the youth council to earn volunteer or community service hours or wants to help us become the first county where teens are 100 percent tobacco free, please contact Natalie Gray at 704-216-8849. Or join us at 6:30 p.m. on August 10 at the Rowan Public Library for our youth meeting. Our program is funded by the N.C. Health & Wellness Trust Fund.

Memorable day
I wanted to thank all the people that worked together to make it possible for Elva Kesler to be able to attend her granddaughter’s wedding recently. From the social workers (Wendy and Shanna) at Genesis who helped with transportation arrangements to the nursing staff on 300 hall who made sure she was ready on time, what good teamwork from everyone. Also, thanks to John Cauble who transported her to the reception and to Bill and Shirley Ruble who returned her to Genesis for me.
The biggest thanks we must give go to Damien, whose quiet, patient demeanor is exactly what Mom needs. What a blessing you are to the residents and how lucky we are to have you in our lives. Thanks to all for the memories from that day
