SPENCER — On Sunday, Nov. 18, Spencer Fire Department will officially place Ladder 75 into service. The public is invited to the 2 p.m. service.

The short ceremony will include a prayer of blessing for the apparatus and department as well as the traditional “pushing in” of the apparatus into the station. This tradition dates to the horse drawn steam pumper era in the fire service.

Ladder 75 was bought by the town of Spencer from the city of Salisbury in early 2018. The apparatus is a 2000 model E-One platform ladder truck. The apparatus can pump 2,000 gallons of water per minute and is equipped with a 95-foot aerial ladder. Some of the other features include seating for five firefighters, thermal imaging camera, hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life), hazardous gas monitor and many other rescue and firefighting tools.

Fire Chief Gray Grubb thanks Mayor Jim Gobbel, the Board of Alderman, former Town Manager Reid Walters and the Salisbury Fire Chief Bob Parnell for their assistance and support in buying this apparatus. Ladder 75 will continue to serve the town of Spencer and nearby communities for years to come.
