Rowan Chamber announces annual gala

The Rowan County Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its 93rd annual gala on Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. at the West End Plaza.

The theme of this year’s gala is The Greatest Show.

Novant Health Rowan Medical Center is the title sponsor. We Are the Foxes will emcee the event.

The gavel will pass from 2018 Chair Dr. Janet Spriggs of Rowan Cabarrus Community College to 2019 Chair Nicole Holmes Matangira with Holmes Iron and Mantangira Recycling Inc.

Awards will be presented for Paul E. Fisher Chamber Volunteer of the Year, Chamber Champion Small Business of the Year, and the Duke Energy Citizenship & Service Award.

There will be a reception and catered sit-down meal catered by The Smoke Pit. Dress is business professional or semi-formal. Corporate sponsorship tables are $1,000 with eight

premium seats. Individual tickets are available for chamber members $50 per person or $85 for a couple (two tickets) and will not be assigned seating. Non-members are welcome to attend, however, the price is $80 per person.

Warren Cole Smith will speak at December’s Power in Partnership

Warren Cole Smith, the vice president of mission advancement for the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, will be the speaker for the Power in Partnership breakfast on Dec. 13.

Smith will be speaking on “How to Create Thriving Community.”

Smith hosts the weekly podcast “Listening In,” a long-form interview program. Prior to joining the Colson Center, he was vice president of WORLD News Group. Before a career in ministry, he spent more than 20 years in the corporate world, including seven years as the marketing director for a major division of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the global accounting and consulting firm.

The Rowan not-for-profits and Healthy Rowan will sponsor the PiP.

The breakfast is Dec. 13 at 7:30 a.m. at Trinity Oaks.

19-C Judicial District Bar elects new officers

The 19-C Judicial District Bar met Nov. 15 to elect leaders for 2019 and recognize two attorneys for their service.

For 2019, Christopher Sease was elected president, Timothy Gould will serve as the vice president, and Richard Reamer, of Kluttz Reamer Hayes Adkins & Carter LLP, will be the secretary and treasurer.

Attorneys M. Bays Shoaf and Donald Sayers were recognized for 50 years of service.

The organization name was changed from 19-C District Bar to 27th District Bar to conform to a new statewide system of numbering local bar districts.

More than 70 members attended the Nov. 15 meeting. The 27th District Bar Association has about 160 members.
