The Rowan International Church in Salisbury, NC is the oldest African-Immigrant church and serves the majority of the Liberian population in the community.

Located at 1709 N. Lee Street in Salisbury, the church continues to reach people in the community through its weekly activities, monthly tarries and revivals.

Though the demography of the church is predominately Liberian it also has members in its congregation from other African countries like Nigeria, the Island as well as the African-American community. About 15 years ago the church erected its current edifice which seats about 130 persons; 5 years ago the church purchased a building adjacent for ministry expansion, seeking to be a community based, loving and caring church to church 2 years ago bought a vacant lot for the purpose of constructing a community center to reach people in the Salisbury community.

Now with 3 lots and 2 buildings the church has turned its focus on the renovation of the ministry building it purchased in 2013. However, due to limited resources the renovation process has been slow and challenging; nonetheless, it continues to make the best it has with donations and manpower from the First Baptist church of China Grove in the initial process of the renovations.

The coming along side of First Baptist Church of China Grove was a tremendous help and an encouragement to the church and it has never stopped since. The trustee board under the leadership of its current chair and vice-chair sis. Marilyn Kennedy and bro. James Paul along with other auxiliaries in the church has taken the renovation of the “Ministry” building to a whole new level from the inside out; they have expanded the building to include a male and female bathrooms, new flooring, and updated the kitchen with new appliances and new paint making it possible for the church to realize its dream of using the building for ministry and to also give the members a place for fellowship.

On November 11, 2018, the Christian Education department was able for the first time to use the ministry building to host its Christian education awareness Sunday. During this time also sis. Elaine Wilson an educator and church worker delivered a 10 minutes uplifting message on the “the importance of Education in the church.”

Teaching materials donated to this department by the First Baptist church on Fulton Street through the leadership of Rev. Rod Kerr was distributed and displayed. The church is appreciative and grateful to First Baptist church for its continuous support to the Christian Education department of Rowan International church through materials and training that has helped the members of this church grow in the knowledge of the word.

There is still more to be done to get the ministry building to where it needs to be to properly meet the learning, social and spiritual needs of its members. According to Pastor Edmond T. Ramble, his vision is to see the building renovation completed so that it can be used for children ministry, Sunday school, fellowship and office.

This season of Thanksgiving, the Rowan Church Family got more to be thankful for; believing that with God nothing is impossible. Great things He has done and greater things He will still do.
