LAS VEGAS ó A Las Vegas Strip casino has sued Denver Broncos running back LaMont Jordan over $20,000 in gambling debts plus interest.
Lawyers for The Mirage hotel-casino filed the lawsuit Thursday in Clark County District court and said Jordan applied for six gambling markers in June 2008.
The lawsuit says that when the check-like markers were deposited, they were returned because of insufficient funds or an inability to locate the account.
An application attached to the lawsuit shows Jordan identified himself as a football player for the Oakland Raiders.
Jordan played for Oakland from 2005 through 2007, and played for New England last year.
A casino spokesman had no comment. A Broncos spokesman did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
ROETHLISBERGER
RENO, Nev. ó The lawyer for a woman suing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for alleged sexual assault has given the two-time Super Bowl winner more time to respond to the lawsuit.
Reno attorney Cal Dunlap says Roethlisberger’s attorneys now have until Aug. 21 to file their response.
The woman, who worked as an executive VIP casino host at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, claims the quarterback lured her to his hotel room under false pretenses and raped her during a celebrity golf tournament last summer. She’s seeking a minimum of $490,000 plus punitive damages.
The suit also names hotel officials as defendants.
On Friday, lawyers for two other defendants filed motions to move the case from Reno 50 miles south to Minden in Douglas County.
