SALISBURY — The Salisbury City Council will meet Tuesday to discuss requesting disaster-recovery funding from FEMA and changing the time of council meetings.

Rowan County has been designated as a disaster area because of Hurricane Florence. The city is in the process requesting assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The council will consider a resolution to authorize purchasing coordinator Gayla Long and senior management analyst Anna Bumgarner to file for the FEMA funding.

The council will review changing the start time of its meetings. At a meeting in October, the council discussed changing the time and the impact it would have on the public-comment period.

Also on the agenda:

• The council will consider a contract with Brushy Mountain Builders Inc. of Lenoir for piping improvements at the water treatment plant at a cost of $848,000.

• The council will vote on changes to qualifications for members of the Fair Housing Steering Committee.

• The council will receive an update on a proposed bike-share ordinance from City Engineer Wendy Brindle. The city is researching ways to regulate bike and scooter programs.

• Mayor Al Heggins will recognize Alex Clark, the ’Tis the Season Spectacular Committee and Transgender Day of Remembrance and offer a special tribute in memory of A’yanna Allen, a young girl killed in a drive-by shooting.

• City Manager Lane Bailey will present an update on the Hotwire broadband service.

The City Council will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday at 217 S. Main St. This will be the only meeting this month.
