The Rowan County Board of Commissioners will meet Monday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m., with steps toward 2019’s revaluation on the agenda.

Commissioners could approve a proposed 2019 Schedule of Values and Present Use Values, used by the county tax assessor’s office as workers place value on all properties, land, building and improvements in the county.

Rowan County currently undergoes revaluations every four years, with the last having occurred in 2015.

Should the schedule be approved, rates will then be advertised and open for inspection for appeal for four consecutive weeks.

Residents can expect notices the second week in February detailing any adjustments in property valuation. Rates are based upon what’s happening in the current market conditions for value, according to tax assessor staff.

In other business from Monday’s agenda:

• Commissioners will schedule their annual planning retreat.
• Commissioners could approve a budget amendment.

The amendment allows for renovations to the courthouse, which came in $167,903 over budget during the bidding process.

• Commissioners could appoint applicants to local boards and commissions.

These include Tina Acree to the Dangerous Dog Appeals Board; Patricia Yost or Kimberly to the Board of Public Health for the registered nurse vacancy; Edgar Abad to the Board of Public Health as a member of the general public; Jennifer Hammond to the Home and Community Care Block Grant Advisory Committee; Sheriff Kevin Auten, District Attorney Brandy  Cook and Judge James Randolph to the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council; Sylvia Fosha to the Nursing Home Advisory Committee; Ken Upright, Mike Caskey, and Adam Sewell to the Rescue Squad Board; Lillian Gascoigne to the Rowan Public Library Board; Pam Bloom, Krista Swartz or Jennifer Sechler Nicholson to two at-large vacancies on the Rowan Public Library Board; and Craig Pierce to the Tourism Development Authority.

The board will also make two appointments to the Volunteer Fire Departments Relief Fund Board of Trustees for Atwell, Bostian Heights, Cleveland Community, East Gold Hill, Ellis Cross Country, Enochville, Franklin, Locke Township, Miller Ferry, Pooletown, Rockwell Rural, Scotch-Irish; South Salisbury, Union, West Rowan and Woodleaf.
