KANNAPOLIS ó So far 1,500 people have signed up for the MURDOCK Study.
Only 48,500 to go.
The study, which stands for Measurement to Understand Reclassification of Disease of Cabarrus/Kannapolis, aims to find new ways to diagnose and treat chronic disease by studying human health at the molecular level.
It was created in September 2007, when Duke University received a $35 million gift from David H. Murdock, owner of Dole Food and Castle & Cooke.
The first MURDOCK Study participant was enrolled in February 2009. The study is working toward enrolling 50,000 local residents of Kannapolis and Cabarrus County.
The MURDOCK Study will re-write the textbook of medicine by reclassifying health and disease using genomic technologies and electronic health records. It is a multi-tiered approach with horizons guiding the study’s plans and objectives. In this far-reaching study design, each component stretches toward incremental knowledge that will illuminate the next horizon of inquiry.
