Rowan County first baseman Trey Holmes was named to the all-tournament team for the American Legion World Series.
Holmes, who attends Pitt Community College, was 6-for-18 in the World Series, including a 4-for-6 effort in Rowan’s 15-14 loss to national champion Midland, Mich.
The 2008 East Rowan graduate doubled, tripled and drove in three runs against Midland.
Holmes was 11-for-25 in the Southeastern Regional and scored 10 runs in six games.
Other members of the all-tournament team were pitchers Braden Shipley (Oregon), Chad Mayle (Michigan) and Michael Wacha (Texas), second baseman Johnny Field (Southern Nevada), third baseman Eric Dawson (Michigan), shortstop and MVP Jordan Dean (Michigan), catcher Lewis Sebrell (Oregon) and outfielders Kendrick Henderson (Texas), Jake Matuszak (Connecticut) and Jake Ringold (Maryland) and T.J. White (Southern Nevada) and DH Matt Maurer (Oregon).
– Intimidators win
The Kannapolis Intimidators beat the Lexington Legends 3-2 in 11 innings at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Tuesday.
Jared Mitchell and Eduardo Escobar drove in runs as the Intimidators rallied from a 2-0 deficit. Drew O’Neil (3-0) worked a perfect top of the 11th to secure the win.

Jerry Sands (Catawba) went 3-for-3 for Great Lakes on Tuesday and hit his second homer since being promoted to the Midwest League.
* Daniel Wagner scored Bristol’s only run in a 6-1 loss against Bluefield and stole his 11th base on Tuesday.
* Zach Ward (A.L. Brown) fell to 0-4 with the Carolina Mudcats when he allowed two runs in a brief relief appearance against Jacksonville on Tuesday.
Ward’s ERA rose to 24.55.

Independence got the nod for No. 1, with Butler second.
West Rowan is ranked fifth. A.L. Brown is 20th. Thomasville is 22nd.
– Prep tennis
Hannah Lebowitz, Joy Loeblein, Erika Nelson, Katelyn Storey, Anna Page and Sierra Davis were singles winners as Salisbury’s tennis team beat Carson 9-0 on Monday.
– Prep soccer
The Rowan County Soccer Tournament was last held prior to this season in 2006.
It was suspended for two years because the expanded, 10-team NPC left no room for Carson, West, South and East Rowan to play non-league matches. East Rowan, which plays Carson in Thursday’s 5 p.m. consolation, was technically the defending champion.
West plays Salisbury in Thursday’s title game.
