The Rowan EDC Board of Directors reflected on the year’s county economy at Thursday’s meeting.

No action was made due to lack of quorum.

Chair Bryan Overcash thanked Rowan County Commissioner Jim Green who was in attendance for the commissioners’ financial and moral support. Greene commended the EDC’s work this year supporting Rowan County.

Treasurer Dan Peters gave a report saying they were currently at 43 percent of their annual budget, one percent higher than they should be. He added they weren’t concerned.

The Rowan County EDC president Rod Crider talked about the work Expand Rowan has done over the year to bring awareness to the EDC. In fiscal year 2018-19, they have visited 25 locations, compared to last year’s 15. Looking forward, they have four meeting scheduled for January.

Scott Shelton, the vice president of operations, spoke on the various projects in the county and the progress. He said they are working with Duke Energy securing grant monies for Project Arizona. The EDC has also been to various town meeting across the county to talk about possible expansions.

The board also spoke about the board changes. Hayes Smith and Dyke Messinger will be exiting the board. This was the first EDC meeting for new member Tim Proper.

2018 Business Expo scheduled for Dec. 22

The DRJ Trinity Business Group and Great Women & Men United, Inc. are teaming up to host the 2018 Business Expo.

The event is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 316 Lake Drive in Salisbury.

The expo is free to the public and open to local businesses and entrepreneurs to enjoy speakers, entertainment, food, a mini fashion show and a donated Christmas tree.
