The NCHSAA announced seven new Hall of Fame inductees Tuesday, including Pete Stout, who played at Catawba and enjoyed coaching success at Boyden (later Salisbury) High School and Catawba.
In 28 years as a high school head coach, Stout rolled up a record of 234-63-14.
Bruce Hardin, whose many coaching stops included a great run from 1989-1999 at A.L. Brown, is also in this Hall of Fame class.
The inductees will be honored at halftime of the Miami-UNC football game on Nov. 14.

– Intimidators fall
The Kannapolis Intimidators lost to West Virginia 7-3 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Tuesday. The loss was the third straight for the Intimidators.
Kannapolis trailed 7-0 before it mounted a rally that included Jon Gilmore’s two-out double.
Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) went 0-for-3 with a walk in his first home game for Kannapolis. See Sunday’s Post for a story on Wagner.
– Prep cross country
In a 10×1 relay held at Frank Liske Park, Salisbury edged South Rowan for second place.
Top runners for Salisbury were Philip Tonseth, Emily Shields, Daniel DeGraaf, Margaret Kaufman, Tyler Downs, Jenna Bryan, Marqui Ross, Karen Presnell, Nick Summers and Katherine Shields.
– Prep soccer
Salisbury rolled over Mount Pleasant 8-0 on Tuesday.
The Hornets used four units in the blowout. They led 6-0 at halftime. Scott Van der Poel and Connor Miller split time in goal.
B.J. Woods scored twice for the Hornets. Kenny Bonilla, Matt Cervantes, Jordy Sanchez, Hanson Saryee, John Romero and Michael Mazur scored a goal apiece.
John Grant had two assists. Cervantes, Mazur, Wes McNeely and Matt Marshall had one helper each.
Salisbury plays at South Rowan tonight at 6 p.m.
– Prep tennis
Carson’s tennis team won 6-3 against North Iredell on Monday. Kelly Dulkoski, Carol Brown, Hannah Shinn and Elizabeth Hefner were victorious in singles. Dulkoski-Brown and Shinn-Hefner won in doubles for the Cougars (3-2, 2-2 NPC).
* West fell to Davie 7-2. See Scoreboard.
– Prep volleyball
South Rowan (7-1) lost for the first time this season, falling to defending 3A champ North Iredell 25-14, 25-18, 25-21 in an NPC match on Tuesday.
* Kayla Morrow had 14 kills and Sam Goins had five in South’s 25-13, 25-9, 25-21 win against Northwest Cabarrus on Monday. Nicole Barringer had 23 assists.
* Also in the NPC, West Rowan lost to unbeaten West Iredell 25-17, 25-7, 25-21.
– College football
Local players on D-II rosters include:
* Catawba: Safety Jaspen Gray (Davie) and linebacker Julian Samolu (West Rowan) started opening day. Samolu was in on five tackles, while Gray was in on four. Safety Aaron Cauble (East Rowan) and receiver Jamey Small (East) saw significant playing time. Cauble had one tackle.
Others are Dustin Craft (Carson), Calvin Hall and Casey Hall (Northwest Cabarrus), quarterback Daniel Griffith (North Rowan), offensive lineman Daniel Donaldson (South Rowan), Tim Flanagan (West) and Darrius Massey (North).
* Livingstone: The roster includes quarterback Bryan Aycoth (West) and linebacker Delando Clowney (NWC).
* UNC Pembroke: The roster includes DB Jordan Lilly (West), linebacker Derek Davis (South), defensive lineman Kenderic Dunlap (West) and receiver Ben DeCelle (East Rowan). Offensive lineman David Melton (West) is out of action with a serious foot injury.
* Wingate: Phillip Hilliard (Salisbury) is the starting punter for the Bulldogs and was named Wingate’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the opener.
The roster includes offensive lineman Austin Lowe (West), linebacker Robert Kepley (West), defensive lineman Josh Patch (East), DB Josh Moss (A.L. Brown) and receiver Colby Reid (A.L. Brown). Patch saw action in Wingate’s win against West Georgia.
* Brevard: Senior ReShaun Parks (Davie), a former DB, is listed as a running back on this year’s roster. Offensive lineman Brent Abendroth (Davie) also plays for the Tornados.
* Lenoir-Rhyne: Offensive lineman Ben Kuhn (Davie) returns for the Bears.
– College soccer
Pfeiffer’s Kash Knight was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week.
* Barton shut out Catawba 2-0 on Tuesday. Ross Willard had four saves for the Indians.
– Rowan Rampage
The Rowan Rampage football team lost its third straight game on Saturday, falling to the Iredell Warriors 39-20.
– Corbin golf
The Corbin Hill Ladies played a Blind Nine on Tuesday.
Phyllis Durland was low gross winner on the front nine, with Faye Cline second.
Eileen Full won low net, with Gail Capone second.
On the back nine, Carolyn Reis won low gross, with Cindy Carmazzi second. Ruth Bowles won low net on the back side, with Tony Iossi second.
– Middle schools
West Rowan’s softball team topped North Rowan 16-3 on Tuesday. West pitcher, Kristine South pitched a two-hitter and struck out 12.
South had three hits to lead a 14-hit attack. Michaela White, Marissa Yow, and Leea Earnhardt had two hits each.
Catherine Whitley homered. Jennifer Watson, Hunter Gibbons, White and Yow led the defense.
