Rob Vaughn drove in six runs in the bottom of the fifth to spark the Intimidators to a 10-3 victory over the Hickory Crawdads on Saturday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
Vaughn hit a three-run homer and a three-run double in a nine-run fifth inning.
Jon Gilmore went 3-for-4. Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
n Local golf
Salisbury’s Mechelle Kuld won her flight (women 49-under) in the PGA Tour Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship held in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Kuld shot 90-88-83-86 ó 347 gross for four rounds. Her net score was 276.
n Pfeiffer athletics
Pfeiffer won’t be getting a ticket allocation for its exhibition game at Duke on Oct. 24. It’s Parents Weekend at Duke.
n The deferred 2008 Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies will take place on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the Stokes Student Center Community Room. The 2008 inductees are: Keith Crisco (’64), Jason Cox (’93), Matt Harmer (’98) and Stephanie Ferri-Lewis (’94), a deferred inductee from 2007.
n Pfeiffer men’s soccer lost 2-1 against UNC Pembroke on Friday. CC Player of the Week Kash Knight scored for the Falcons.
n Brittany Dickens and Jordan O’Bryant led Pfeiffer’s volleyball team to a split in a tournament. The Falcons lost to Lander 3-0 and beat North Greenville 3-0.
n Pfeiffer’s women’s soccer team was shut down 3-0 by Carson-Newman on Saturday.

Salisbury Academy won 9-0 against Sacred Heart at City Park. See Scoreboard.
n Middle school football
The Knox-North Rowan seventh grade games have been moved to North Middle. The seventh-graders play Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., while the eighth-graders tangle on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
n Civic Center programs
Salisbury Civic Center is offering adult tennis lessons on Wednesdays, starting Sept. 9.
The program runs four weeks. Lessons are from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $30.
n Salisbury Civic Center is offering a self-defense class for youths ages 8-up. The program runs year round on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The cost is $3 per class.

n Catawba athletics
Catawba’s volleyball team (5-1) split two matches at the USC Aiken Invitational on Friday.
n Catawba’s field hockey team (0-4) fell to Kutztown 9-1 and lost 5-4 to Bellermine in overtime. Bronwen Gainsford made 17 saves in the loss to Bellarmine.
Catawba lost to Limestone 3-2 in overtime on Saturday. McKenzie Poirier and Dana Dolbow scored for the Indians.
n Catawba’s women’s soccer team beat Georgia College and State University 1-0 on Friday in Milledgeville, Ga. Merritt Rollins scored the goal for the Indians (1-0-1). Maria Borland had the assist.
n Livingstone athletics
Livingstone’s volleyball team opened with victories against Edward Waters and Allen on Friday at Trent Gym.
Lashaundra Ferguson led the Blue Bears with 19 kills in a 3-2 win against Edward Waters. The Blue Bears swept Allen.
n College football
Wingate won the turnover battle and converted two miscues into touchdowns as the Bulldogs topped North Greenville 33-14 in Division II football action Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field. Wingate had four takeaways, while posting zero giveaways.
With the victory, Wingate improves to 2-0 overall and 7-0 overall lifetime against the NGU Crusaders. North Greenville falls to 0-2 overall.
The two teams were tied 7-7 midway through the second quarter. After the Crusaders tied the score, the Bulldogs scored 19 unanswered points in less than five minutes to take a 26-7 lead at intermission.
n UNC Pembroke racked up more than 400 yards of total offense for the second-straight game, while limiting Saint Paul’s to just 36 yards through the air on 3-of-13 passing, to key a 37-0 blanking of the visiting Tigers Saturday evening at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.
The Braves (2-0) pushed their home winning streak out to six games, while improving their record in home openers out to 3-0, with a balanced offensive attack that produced 422 total offensive yards, including 272 through the air. Saint Paul’s (0-1), who was playing their season opener after being forced to cancel last week’s game against West Virginia Wesleyan, mustered just 141 total offensive yards on the night.
L.J. Johnson matched his own existing school single game record with three touchdown receptions, including two in the first half, but it was UNCP’s defense that set the tone on the night, recording eight tackles for loss (three sacks), a trio of interceptions and two forced fumbles (one lost). The visitors gained just 29 yards in the second quarter ń all on the ground. All-American free safety Caylon Hann matched his own existing school record as well with a pair of interceptions.
