From staff reportsThe Kannapolis Intimidators lost 7-3 to Hickory on Sunday. Brandon Short went 2-for-4. Today’s game ends the regular season.
The Intimidators had an announced attendance Sunday of 2,765. Official season attendance was 130,287 fans and topped the previous record 129,252 established in 2001.
n Minor leagues
Zach Ward (A.L. Brown) was the winning pitcher in relief for the Carolina Mudcats on Saturday.
Ward (2-4) pitched a scoreless ninth in a 3-2 victory against Mississippi on Saturday and won his second straight decision.
n Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus) was promoted by the Seattle Mariners to their advanced Class A team, the High Desert Mavericks, over the weekend.
Seager batted .275 with a homer and 22 RBIs for Clinton prior to his promotion.
n Jerry Sands (Catawba) had two doubles on Saturday and was 2-for-2 with two walks on Sunday for the Great Lakes Loons.
n Men’s soccer
Kyle Clinton, 6-foot-4, headed home the winning goal as 18th-ranked Francis Marion beat Pfeiffer 1-0 on Sunday at Lefko Field.
Pfeiffer fell to 2-2.
n Catawba athletics
Freshman Christian Crifasi finished second overall in the men’s 8K at the Eye Opener Cross Country Meet held Saturday in Spartanburg, S.C.
Crifasi ran the seventh-fastest time in school history and helped the men to a fifth-place finish out of 13 teams.
Catawba’s women finished eighth out of 12 schools. Senior Maleah Cole led the women. She covered the 5K course in a time of 20:39 and was 14th overall.
n Catawba lost to Armstrong Atlantic 3-1 in women’s soccer on Sunday.
Catawba (1-1-1) got a goal from Kaitlyn McFarland. Merrit Rollins and Kristen Girardi assisted.
n Jacobs at WCU
Cross country runner Olivia Jacobs (South Rowan) has transferred from Catawba to Western Carolina.
She was 13th in Friday’s Western Carolina Invitational.
