Marie Clinton Day at Southern City Tabernacle
EAST SPENCER — Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church, 940 S Long St., will host Marie L. Clinton Day on Sunday at 11 a.m. with special guest speaker Lee Kennedy.
Marie L. Clinton is the organizer and the first superintendent of the Buds of Promise Juvenile Missionary Society. Lee Kennedy is an active member of the church where he serves as the Salisbury district youth president. Tawanda Smith is the local superintendent of the Buds of Promise and Rev. UMA honors MLK Jr.
pic United Ministerial Alliance of Salisbury-Rowan will Honor the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., at 7 p.m. Sunday at Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St., Rev. Anthony Williams, host pastor; Rev. William D. Turner, Pastor Emeritus; Bishop W. Ronald Hash, UMA president.
The guest preacher is Rev. Dr. Lamont F. Foster Sr., pastor of Mt. Pisgah AME Zion Church of Rockingham. He is a retired licensed professional counselor in mental health with more than 20 years of experience.
The Livingstone College Gospel Choir will render the music.
MLK Jr. breakfast at Rock Hill AME Zion
CONCORD — The Christian Education Department of Rock Hill AME Zion Church, 3620 Rock Hill Church Road, hosts the fifth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast on Monday at 9 a.m. on theme of “ The Power of Remaining One.” The keynote speaker is Rev. Gerdes to give organ recital
pic CHINA GROVE — Clara B. Gerdes will present an organ recital at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in China Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Clara is from Davidson,is a fifth-year student at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia where she studies with Alan Morrison. She received first prizes in the Albert Schweitzer, AGO-Quimby Mid-Atlantic Regional and UNCSA School of the Arts organ competition. She has performed at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York and Washington National Cathedral, and at Spoleto, the Oregon Bach Festival, Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts and most recently the Uncommon Music Festival in Sitka, Alaska.
Treasure Feamster Scholarship fundraiser
The third annual Treasure Feamster Scholarship fundraiser is at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, on the theme of “To Be The Best We Must Invest.” There will be dinner, entertainment and a fashion show featuring casual wear, Sunday best, formal and African attire.
