With the unending rain, we have had a very wet fall and winter so far. This has led to our pastures being muddy, and you may not have had the chance to put in your cool season forages due to the wet ground.

I would highly encourage you to spend some time this year looking at ways to help your pastures and get them to where you want them to be. Below are some meetings and field days I encourage you to attend this year.

2019 Winter Conference Series: Jan. 23. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and the program is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The program will cover effective weed management in pastures and hay fields. The location will be the Rowan County Center, 2727 Old Concord Road. Registration is $25, and lunch will be provided.

Forage Recovery Plan 2019 Winter Conference: Feb. 13. Registration will begin at 2 p.m., and the program will be from 2:15-6 p.m. The location will be the NCDA&CS Piedmont Research Station, 8530 Sherrills Ford Road. The program will be Management Strategies for Early and Late Plantings for Cool-Season Forages in North Carolina.

68th Annual North Carolina Cattlemen’s and Dairy Conference: Feb. 21-23. Location will be the Hickory Metro Convention Center, 1960 13th Avenue Drive, SE, located off I-40 at Exit 125, Hickory. For more information or to register, please visit https://www.nccattle.com/news-events/annual-conference

Fescue Workshop: March 12. Details will be available soon, but make sure you hold that date.

Rowan County Cattlemen’s Meeting will be held Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. The location and program will be by James River Equipment on Julian Road. RSVP by Feb. 4 by calling 704-216-8970.
