Game notes: The Big Blue Machine got a real scare last week, but West pulled out another one.
The update on Park’s county-record career numbers ó 1,035 carries, 7,822 rushing yards, 110 TDs.
The problem for opposing defensive coordinators is West throws as well as it runs. Jon Crucitti has 11 catches in two games. KaJuan Phillips is emerging as a huge threat. QB B.J. Sherrill is 24 of 37 passing for 344 yards.
West’s defense did not have a good game last week and will be out to make amends. West still leads the county in rushing defense, yards allowed and scoring defense.
SHS coach Joe Pinyan is 0-2 against West, but Salisbury had a great effort in Mount Ulla in 2006, the last time it faced the Falcons.
The Hornets rank third in the county on offense and second in rushing (251.0 yards per game). They have weapons in QB John Knox, RB Romar Morris, and rugged fullback Ike Whitaker.
Parks amassed 161 yards on 10 carries against SHS as a freshman, but a D-line led by Kiontae Rankin will provide a challenge.
