Lexington rushed for just 40 yards against HP Central, but the Yellow Jackets played a good game defensively for three quarters. End K.B. Horton led the defense.
Al Challenger threw for 120 yards to pace the offense. Quandarious Crump, whom North fans know well from basketball, has carried most of the load on the ground with Duke Horton battling an injury.
North’s had a week off to work on an offense that has struggled mightily. The Cavs are averaging only 67.5 yards and 3.5 points per game.
Cameron Mallett has rushed for 82 yards and Vince Shropshire for 75, but there’s been no passing game to speak of and lots of sacks. Keith Reid will be one of the leaders for North in the trenches.
Defensively, North’s been good enough to win, ranking third in the county with 218.5 yards allowed per game.
North’s rivalry with the Yellow Jackets began in 1958, the year North opened, with Lexington winning 45-13. The schools have met every season since 1977.
During the Roger Secreast Era at North, the Cavs took charge of the series. North won 12 straight from the Jackets from 1991-2001, including a 1994 playoff tilt.
