Game notes: Davie played extremely well in last week’s loss and could log its first ‘W’ tonight even though Providence Day, a member of the NCISAA, is no pushover.
Providence Day put up 488 yards of offense against the War Eagles last season, but Davie was able to counter with 455 of its own and win a shootout in Mocksville.
Providence Day has its entire offensive line back from last season and has good skill players in quarterback Price Litton and running backs Josh Covington, Peyton Landrum and Greg Goff.
Providence Day also has a legendary coach in Bruce Hardin, who will be inducted into the NCHSAA Hall of Fame this fall. Hardin’s teams at A.L. Brown won 3A state titles in 1989 and 1997.
The big edge Davie has on Hardin’s Chargers is depth. PD started this season with 33 players in uniform.
Davie’s offensive numbers got better last week, and when numbers get better against West Rowan, a team has potential. QB Jacob Barberand receivers Joe Watson and Darius Wilson had strong games.
Davie’s defensive numbers are ugly, but part of that is the War Eagles have taken on unbeaten juggernauts Page and West Rowan.
Davie is allowing 351.7 yards and 25.3 points per game, but it has capable defenders such as end Anthony Ressa.
