South Rowan senior Maverick Miles is back home recuperating from open-heart surgery that was performed Wednesday to repair a hole. A full recovery is anticipated.
Miles, all-county in baseball three times, has verbally committed to High Point.
n GARS outingSixty-three GARS members played golf at Lexington Country Club on Monday.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Butch Adams with a net of 58.03. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Lou Manning with a net of 62.15. Low ‘C’ player with a net of 66.35 was Norman Schenk. Low ‘D’ Flight player was Pete Ladd with a net of 65.58.
n Amateur golf
Uly Grisette (Davie) will shoot for a repeat victory in the Carolinas Golf Association’s Mid-Amateur Championship in Asheboro this weekend.
n Basketball training
ABC Youth Development will hold basketball skills training each Sunday from 3-5 p.m. It’s open to boys and girls in grades 6-12 at a cost of $5 per session.

Over-32 pick-up basketball will be played on Wednesday nights at the Hurley YMCA starting this Wednesday.
