East Rowan’s girls tennis team defeated NPC rival South Rowan 9-0 on Monday.
Brittany Honeycutt, Devan Corpening, Megan Bullins, Kayela Wilson, Katie Cassady and Hannah Pressley were singles winners.
Honeycutt-Corpening, Wilson-Bullins and Cassady-Brett Kesler won in doubles.
East’s next match is Wednesday at West Iredell.
* Also in the NPC, West Rowan beat North Iredell 7-2 on Monday.
Sarah Teel, Kate Ritchie, Madison Rusher and Ellen Watts won in singles for the Falcons.
Teel-Ritchie, Rusher-Watts and Maggie Daniel-Mary Tyler March won in doubles.
* Salisbury posted a 9-0 victory against CCC rival Lexington on Monday.
Hannah Lebowitz, Sierra Davis, Mary Margaret Mills, Caroline Graham, Sallie Kate Meyerhoeffer and Mally Fisher claimed singles victories for the Hornets (10-0, 3-0 CCC).
Erika Nelson-Katelyn Storey, Joy Loeblein-Anna Page and Sarah Shirley-Alex Yarborough won in doubles.

East Rowan lost to West Iredell 1-0 in its NPC opener on Monday.
The Warriors scored on a penalty kick after the Mustangs were penalized for a handball in the box.
Andrew May’s defense and Dillon Arey’s saves kept the Mustangs in it all the way.
“We just got unlucky, and the Warriors kept the pressure on,” East coach John McNeil said. “When they had their opportunity in a well-played game, they capitalized.”

Matthews Butler is ranked No. 1 in this week’s CarolinaPreps.com high school football media poll. Butler beat previous No. 1 Richmond County 38-31 on Friday. The Bulldogs received 11 of 16 first-place votes.
Unbeaten R.J. Reynolds, a CPC squad, debuted in the poll at 17th.
West Rowan is ranked eighth (see Scoreboard). Salisbury received votes.

Livingstone’s game this Saturday at Bowie State (Md.) is now set for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Blue Bear fans can listen via www.wordnet.org or on 93.3 WOGR-FM.

Catawba shut out Barton 2-0 on Monday at Frock Field. Andrea Dunshie scored in the 13th minute, and Stephanie Borland scored on a header late in the first half.
Catawba (3-1-1) outshot the Bulldogs 14-2.
– Men’s soccer
Catawba lost to USC Aiken 7-0 on Monday at the Pacer Pit in Aiken. Catawba (1-4) trailed 6-0 at halftime. Ross Willard made four second-half saves for the Indians.
– College volleyball
Pfeiffer’s women’s team opens its home schedule on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against rival Queens. Anyone wearing any type of volleyball-related apparel will be admitted free.
– College cross country
Livingstone’s Winnie Chepchumba placed fifth in the 5K Salem College Invitational women’s race on Saturday. Tim Handy (Salisbury) led the Livingstone men. He finished 13th on an 8K course in 32:06.
