RCCC, Castle & Cooke North Carolina, Kannapolis honored for collaboration
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Castle & Cooke North Carolina, and the city of Kannapolis have been honored as distinguished partners in excellence.
Collaboration between the development company and the city began over a decade ago and has created benefits for the community, the college, and regional and state workforce and economic development, the nomination said.
The partners have supported RCCC’s work at the research campus and helped advance the College Station campus, which opened in August, and the Advanced Technology Center, which will open this year.

Kodie Conner Racing has a new marketing partner for the 2019 racing season, financial adviser Stephen Kidd of Ameriprise Financial.
The company’s logo will be displayed on the hood of the race care and on the race trailer.
The Ameriprise Financial branch is at 127 N. Fulton St.
Headquartered in Minneapolis, Ameriprise Financial has more than $875 billion in assets under management and administration and has more than 2 million individual, business and institutional clients.
ServPro hosts networking tea
ServPro will host a ladies-only tea party and networking gathering at the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce Gateway Building next month.
There will be refreshments, door prizes and opportunities for participants to pamper themselves.

Davie County EDC announces industrial center
The Davie County Economic Development Commission says new buildings are planned for an industrial center in the county.
The Davie Industrial Center at Interstate and Gildan drives in Mocksville will soon add to its inventory. The first of three industrial spaces, a 324,000-square-foot precast concrete building, is under construction and will be available as early as May.
When completed, the center will offer 920,678 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space.
“This is an advantage that every small community and every economic developer would love to have,” said Terry Bralley, president of the Davie County EDC.
Davie Industrial Center was the vision of Bill Junker, owner of Trailers of the East Coast.
Lowe’s to be NFL retail sponsor
Lowe’s Co. is the official home improvement retail sponsor of the National Football League.
The company, which is based in Mooresville, announced the sponsorship Tuesday.
The sponsorship gives Lowe’s the ability to market nationally and locally throughout the year and advertise during key events like the Super Bowl, NFL draft, NFL combine and NFL kickoff and in support of the NFL’s Salute to Service.
“We’re proud to have Lowe’s join as an official NFL sponsor in the home improvement retail category,” said Renie Anderson, senior vice president of NFL Partnerships, Sponsorship and Consumer Products. “We look forward to working with the team from Lowe’s and their network of more than 1,700 stores to connect with NFL fans in communities across the United States.”
Jocelyn Wong, chief marketing officer at Lowe’s, said the partnership will be a point of pride for the company’s more than 300,000 associates.
“Many of us experience our biggest NFL moments at home with family and friends,” Wong said. “As an official sponsor of the NFL, we will build upon the NFL’s growing popularity and fans’ live viewing habits at home to deepen relationships with customers.”
Lowe’s will become the presenting sponsor of Super Bowl Experience beginning at Super Bowl LIV in 2020 in Miami.
BBB ranks online purchases as top scam of 2018
The Better Business Bureau has named the top five scams of 2018 with online purchases coming in first.
Online purchase scams are described as a website or online offer in which customers spending money without receiving the product they ordered.
Experts say 1.4 million fake websites are created every month.
“We consistently warn consumers about fake websites and shopping online and remind them that if a price looks too good to be true, it probably is,” said Tom Bartholomy, president of the Better Business Bureau serving Southern Piedmont and Western North Carolina. “Scammers have been doing such a great job building fake websites with enticing offers that oftentimes it’s difficult to tell that it’s fraudulent at first glance.”
The other top five scams include employment scams, fake checks and money orders, phishing and tax collection.
