Clyde’s juvenile “ah shucks” persona and consistent Yankee bashing is well known in town. Also well known is the reaction of most people  — “Oh, it’s just Clyde.”

However, in my humble opinion, his closing paragraph in last week’s Salisbury Post column (“From shutdowns to work ethic in 2019”) — “Maybe Yankees need a proclamation of reconciliation for being put down all these years” goes beyond “ah shucks.”

The implicit racism is there for all to see. The Resolution of Reconciliation is an important document that indicates to all that the city of Salisbury is on the cutting edge of embracing the 21st century — where racism is no longer tolerated.

The City Council voted unanimously to approve the Resolution of Reconciliation. Clyde’s statement attempts to belittle this effort.

Black, white and brown residents of Salisbury are doing the hard work of becoming a progressive city that attracts economic development and new residents.
