Area Sports Briefs: West wrestlers win NPC tourney

KANNAPOLIS — West Rowan added the North Piedmont Conference Tournament championship to its regular-season title on Saturday.
West scored 169.5 points. Next were East Rowan (134.5), North Iredell (118), Carson (121), Statesville (109) and South Iredell (37.5).
The NPC and South Piedmont Conference tournaments were both held at A.L. Brown.
Carson’s 113-pounder Josh Vega was named the event’s most outstanding wrestler.
West got first places from Devon Pena (106), Mike Molenda (132) and Baiden Suddarth (195).
East Rowan got firsts from Oren Bost (145) and Stephen Deutsch (160).
Carson got firsts from Vega, Noah Basinger (126), Drake Cadle (135) and Josh McCurry (170).
Rowan wrestlers who finished runner-up included Luke Heglar (East, 106), Nate Burrage (East, 113), Ryker Rowland (Carson, 132), DJ Robinson (West, 138), Gavin Coffield (West, 152), Seth Simmerson (West, 160), Tayron Frost (East, 170), Mateo Ramirez (East, 182) and Josh Teeter (East, 285).

Ledford won the Central Carolina Tournament with 155 points. Next were Lexington (143), Salisbury (129), Central Davidson (128), West Davidson (114), East Davidson (98), North Davidson (93), South Rowan (89), Oak Grove (59) and Thomasville (57).
Salisbury had individual champs in Michael Lowry (132) and Kevion Chunn (heavyweight).
Javon White (106), Christian Sierra (113), Lloyd Hilton (120) and Jayden Gibson (138) placed third for the Hornets. Tkaii Gaither (195) finished fourth.
South Rowan’s Jacob Cox (113), Logan Lambert (138) and Michael Sloop (182) won conference championships.
Logan Perry (145) was runner-up.
JV girls basketball
Carson’s girls stayed undefeated with a 46-35 win against West Rowan.
Scoring leaders for Carson were Hannah Isley with 17, Iyonna Parker with 12 and Makayla Johnson with 11.
Defensive standouts for Carson (10-0) were Allie Burns and Maddy Morgan.
Megyn Spicer led West with 11 points, while Dreamah Mason scored 10.

Mid. school hoops
Yohance Connor had 23 points, six assists, six rebounds and five steals for Knox in a 61-19 win against Corriher-Lipe.
DaShawn Brown had 14 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Tim Davis III scored six points. Donnie Williams scored five and had four steals. Daunte Richardson had four rebounds and three steals.
