Business roundup: Walser Technology Group moves into renovated building

Walser Technology Group Inc. is having a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday to mark the move into the new location at 108 South Main St.
Guests will get to view the remodeling effort on an 1891 building.
The technology services company specializes in systems integration and contract support services for small to medium businesses. It has been operating in Rowan County since August of 2003.
The company has three full-time technicians.
Wrenn House ownership changes
The Wrenn House Grill & Pub, 115 South Jackson St., has recently changed ownership, with former cook Michael Morefield now being a partner with Kelly Hammill.
“Four years ago, my parents (who live in New Jersey) and I purchased the Wrenn House from Tony and Mary Ellen Kennedy,” Hammill said in an e-mail. “I had worked here as a server while at Catawba College. I recently married and had a little girl. The restaurant was getting too much for just me to handle. A few weeks ago, my parents sold their half of the restaurant.”
Mark Sutton is assistant manager.
Three join Lake Norman hospital
W. Reginald Faulkner has been named director of Pharmacy at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Faulkner comes from Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg, where he was director of pharmacy and clinical Services. Faulkner received his doctor of pharmacy from Campbell University School of Pharmacy in Buies Creek.
Janice Martin is the new Infection Control/Employee Health Director.
Martin was previously Regulatory and Core Measure Coordinator at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. She is currently pursuing her master of science in nursing from Gardner-Webb University in Shelby.
Amanda Downs is a dietitian.
She comes from Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy, Morrison Healthcare, where she served as clinical/outpatient dietitian. Downs received her master of science in nutrition from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Radiology practices merge
Charlotte Radiology and Cabarrus Radiologists are merging their practices effective Jan. 1, 2010.
Once merged, the groups will provide subspecialized radiology services to several hospitals in North Carolina; their physicians will staff the radiology departments for Carolinas Healthcare System hospitals in several counties, including Cabarrus.
They will jointly own five outpatient imaging centers, a vein and vascular center, an interventional clinic, 12 breast imaging centers, two mobile MRIs and a mobile ultrasound. The groups have agreed to keep the Charlotte Radiology name and together employee more than 80 radiologists in 10 subspecialty areas.

Home Instead honors Royce
Charlie Royce has been named Caregiver of the Month for September at Home Instead Senior Care, 625 W. Innes St.
The award is given to an employee who goes above and beyond the call of duty in caring for seniors with whom they are entrusted.
Royce joined the Salisbury Home Instead team in June 2006.
He is a Salisbury native who also works for Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in the library and is going to school to earn his master’s degree in library science. He is the youngest of eight siblings and enjoys reading and traveling when he has any spare time.
Access 16 channel gets grant
The city of Salisbury received a $2,575 grant from the Capital Expenditure Grant Program for its public channel, Access 16.
Seven North Carolina counties and municipalities received a total of $64,758 in grant money for capital expenditures at public, educational and government access channels.
Administered by the e-NC Authority, the Capital Expenditure Grant Program for qualified public, educational and goverment channels was created by the North Carolina General Assembly to help replace cable franchise fee revenues that were lost by local communities as a result of recent changes in the state video franchise system. The legislation requires that local governments receiving these grants match the e-NC Authority’s award dollar-for-dollar.

Mooresville Center Genesis Health Care adds gazebo
Trudy Springstead, director of environmental services at Mooresville Center Genesis Health Care, led a fundraising campaign to purchase a gazebo for residents of the center.
The gazebo was recently delivered to the site in pieces and put together by the husband of another employee, Sheri Whitaker, and men with Richard Petty Motor Sports Team in Statesville.
Central Carolina Insurance’s Joanne Brown named to council
Joanne Brown of Central Carolina Insurance Agency in Salisbury has been named to the Central Insurance Companies’ CSR Advisory Council for the 2009-2012 term.
She was chosen from more than 3,500 Customer Service Representatives to serve on the council.
The CSR Advisory Council is comprised of independent insurance agents representing the Central Insurance Companies.
The CSR Advisory Council meets regionally once a year and nationally every three years.

Applebee’s franchisee group honored for community work
The Apple Gold Group, franchisee of Applebee’s restaurants in North Carolina, Oklahoma and Arkansas, has received the 2009 North Carolina Restaurant Neighbor Award in the mid-sized business category. Bank of North Carolina names president, chief operating officer
The board of directors of the Bank of North Carolina has named Richard D. Callicutt II president and chief operating officer, effective Oct. 1.
Callicutt, who has been with Bank of North Carolina since its inception in 1991, serves as the bank’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.
As president, Callicutt will oversee operations of the Thomasville-based bank, including retail banking, commercial banking, branch administration and mortgage functions.
Callicutt, who is in his 29th year of banking, joined Bank of North Carolina as senior vice president and senior lender in 1991 when the organization was first established.
A native of Davidson County and a graduate of High Point University, Callicutt is married to the former Johnia Johnson with whom he has three daughters: Lindsay, Erin and Courtney.
Callicutt, who played basketball and ran track at High Point University, has continued his interest in athletics as a coach for the girl’s AAU program for the past nine years.
Larry King Chevrolet helps fund baseball, softball leagues
Larry King Chevrolet is one of 30 Chevrolet dealers from the Charlotte area that partnered with local youth baseball leagues and helped raise close to $104,475.
During the 2009 baseball season, China Grove Youth Baseball & Softball Association received monetary and equipment donations as well as the opportunity to raise up to $10,000 through a unique fundraiser. Youth league members also had the opportunity to attend an instructional baseball clinic with professional instructors.
Larry King Chevrolet partnered with the China Grove Youth Baseball & Softball Association because of the league’s proximity to the dealership.
During the season, Larry King Chevrolet donated team equipment kits, which included equipment bags, ball buckets, coach’s clipboards and T-shirts, and made a cash donation to the association.
