Symphony Guild’s Cocktail Cabaret! fundraiser

The Symphony Guild’s Cocktail Cabaret! fundraiser was a huge success, especially if you talk to any of the winners! Terrific prizes were donated by generous individuals and local businesses.

For instance, James Taylor, well-known artist, donated a recent oil painting that was won by David Garling. A week in a condo owned by Lyndia Heward on North Myrtle Beach will be enjoyed by Frank & Anne Saunders. Jim and Barbara Norman won two prizes: a $100 Gift Certificate donated by the Salisbury Wine Shop and Dinner with the Maestro. John & Pam Schaffer won a $200 Gift Certificate for dinner at La Cava, and Dotty Clement won two tickets to the Waterworks’ Oyster Roast. Kathy Dunn and Gene Krueger generously donated not only a four-day stay at their time share in Williamsburg (won by Jerry and Joyce McCullough) but also the hotel room in Las Vegas for the free trip won by Frank Labagnara. Gayla Bucher created a beautiful wine-and-cheese Gift Basket that was won by John and Cris Brincefield.

Attendees played blackjack, craps, and roulette in a beautifully decorated Casino and used those winnings to advance their chance to win these prizes. Everyone enjoyed the food from area restaurants and especially the stellar entertainment presented by Steve Stringer, John Stafford, and Destiny Stone.

The only question at the end of the evening was “When will the Guild hold this event again?”

 

The Rowan Redbuds

The Rowan Redbuds Garden Club met Thursday, January 24, in the Stanback Room at Rowan Public Library. President Carolyn  Alexander presided. KANNAPOLIS — KHA ( Kannapolis History Associates) present Bill Hallman on the historic 1767 Phifer Graveyard — 7 p.m. Monday Feb 4: lLcated at the end of Lucky Drive near Poplar Tent Road in Concord. Gold Hill Foundation membership meeting
GOLD HILL — Members and guests are invited Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. to meet at the Russell-Rufty Shelter in Gold Hill Mines Historic Park. Foundation president Jay Culp and committee chairmen will give reports and awards will be presented for service projects in the park.
Aaron Kepley, executive director of Rowan Museum will be keynote speaker and present a short program highlighting the 19th century farming and gold mining industry in Rowan County. A social hour with refreshments will follow.
