RALEIGH — When you’re hot, you’re hot, and Shaw got very hot at CC. Spaulding Gym on Monday night.

Livingstone’s five-game winning streak melted under an avalanche of Shaw 3-pointers in the CIAA contest.

Shooting 66.7 percent in the second half, including 10-for-13 from the 3-point line, Shaw blew out Livingstone, 96-65.

Livingstone (12-7, 5-5) didn’t play especially well in the first half, but was very much in the game at the break, down 31-28.

When Lydell Elmore made a free throw two minutes into the second half, LC trailed 35-33.

But then all heck broke loose. Shaw’s DaVaughn Kelsie made a 3-pointer, Amir Hinton dunked, and then Kelsie made another 3-pointer in a 12-0 Shaw run that pushed the lead to 47-33.

By the 14:45 mark, Livingstone was down 20, and it only got worse from there.

Shaw (9-10, 4-6) scored 65 points in the second half.

Hinton led the home team with 28 points, while Kelsie had 18.

Roger Ray scored 24 for the Blue Bears, but he had a tough shooting night, going 7-for-21.

Ray had to try to carry the load, as none of his teammates cracked double figures.

Livingstone shot 33.3 percent for the game and 28 percent in the second half.  The Blue Bears were out-rebounded 48-32.

Livingstone stays on the road and goes to St. Augustine’s on Wednesday.
