Students’ artwork adds to downtown
Congratulations to Salisbury on adding another gem to its downtown collection! I refer to the new “pocket park” at the corner of South Church and West Fisher Streets.
Not only does the Cotton Mill Park recognize an important milestone in the city’s history, but also it was planned to involved many fourth-grade students from both public and private elementary schools. I witnessed firsthand the excitement of these young people on the days when they came to Waterworks Visual Arts Center to convert their drawings into three-dimensional clay tiles!
Working with their art teachers under the instruction of artist Ray Moose and his assistant, Bonnie Culp, the children carefully formed their tiles and then applied special weatherproof glazes to their work. Many volunteers were on hand to assist with the project. After the tiles were successfully fired, Waterworks’ executive director, Anne Scott Clement, worked with the artist to create a cohesive, pleasing layout for the placement of the tiles into the wall.
Planners, directors, art teachers, sponsors and volunteers proved once again the wonderful results of many people coming together to create something of value and beauty. Enjoy the new treasure!

A special thank you to the Salisbury Fire Department first responders and the Rowan County EMS. You’re all special people.
Also, thanks to the two ladies who helped us until the first responders got there. We were at the Senior Expo at the Salisbury Mall when I passed out. The doctor attributed it to my blood pressure. The two ladies were our guardian angels. They were so sweet, kind and helpful as we waited for the first responders to arrive.
May God richly bless all of you, and thanks again from the bottom of our hearts.
