North girls

ROBBINS — North Rowan’s girls won their fourth in a row on Friday, the program’s longest winning streak since the 2015-16 season.

North Rowan prevailed at North Moore, 67-57  in Yadkin Valley Conference action to stay in the top tier of the league. The Cavaliers’ previous offensive high this season was the 58 they scored on Wednesday against North Stanly.

“The girls have the goal of finishing strong and working to make the playoffs,” North’s first-year coach Lamar Wilkerson said. “This was another good win for us.”

Sophomore guard Natavia Taborn led the way for the Cavaliers (11-9, 9-3), matching her career-high with 25 points. Senior guard Mckenzie Shoaf had a career-best 13.

Freshman Hannah Wilkerson was in double figures for the 18th time in 19 games. She scored 13.

Makiya McDaniel had her second straight strong game and scored seven. Ki’Mya Lynch also scored seven.

“North Moore took the lead late in the game, but we never lost our composure,” Coach Wilkerson said. “The girls figured out how to pull together and we pulled it out.”

North Moore is 11-8 overall and 6-6 in the YVC.

North Rowan is home against West Montgomery on Tuesday.

Salisbury girls

MIDWAY — First-place Salisbury against Oak Grove, one of the Central Carolina Conference’s weaker teams, was a mismatch on Friday.

Home-court advantage is only worth so much against superior talent and experience, and the Hornets (16-2, 12-1) kept rolling. They overwhelmed the Grizzlies 57-27 and won their seventh straight.

 Bryanna Troutman scored 14 points. Anayia Fulson scored 12, and Rachel McCullough added 10.

Salisbury did a good job of maintaining defensive intensity on a night when it would’ve been easy to slack off. Salisbury led 27-10 at halftime against the ninth-place Grizzlies (5-15, 2-12).

CC Wooten and Jordan Holt led the Grizzlies with seven points each.

Like a lot of area teams, Oak Grove is dealing with illness and injuries and dressed eight players.

 

A.L. Brown girls

KANNAPOLIS — A.L. Brown’s improving girls put up a good fight before losing to Central Cabarrus, the South Piedmont Conference frontrunner, on Friday.

The Vikings (12-7, 6-0) led 23-15 at halftime and opened up a double-digit lead in the third quarter.

Demi Case sparked Central with 16 points, while Aniyah Tate scored 14.

Jala Campbell led A.L. Brown (3-16, 2-4) with nine points and got scoring help from Jaliyah Simmons (7), Jillian Brim (6) and Kaylee Yow (5).

Jayvee girls

Amoni Bryant, Dreamah Mason and Megyn Spicer led West Rowan to a 29-18 win against East Rowan on Friday.
